Ecosystem of Emory

Emory lies within the Southern Appalachian Piedmont ecosystem of North Georgia. The Piedmont region of the eastern United States runs some 600 miles between New Jersey (north) and Alabama (south) and lies between the Appalachian Mountains (west) and the Atlantic Coastal Plain (east). It comprises a relatively low rolling plateau (from 300 to 1,800 feet) cut by many rivers and is a fertile agricultural region. A piedmont is landform created at the foot of a mountain (Italian: ai piede della montagne) or mountains by debris deposited by shifting streams. "Piedmont" Encyclopædia Britannica Online. The life of the ecosystem depends on its forests and its lifeblood are the streams.
