There are two policy options we could adopt now to secure a future campus with forest. One is to insist from this point forward on no net loss of forest cover—trees lost to construction on one area of campus should be replaced on another area. In addition, we need to plan now for the eventual death of existing trees due to old age and plant the next generation in the same area, for example, the Quad.
