Problems and Solutions

In this and related pages we seek to model some representative environmental problems and offer solutions. Using available research we will lay out the issues in layman's terms with a minimum of technical jargon. Environmental problems tend in many people's minds to fall into one or another of the following four categories: air quality and transportation issues; trees and wildlife; water and watersheds; or homes and buildings.

In the Air Quality and Transportation area, we will describe the basic processes by which our use of gasoline-driven vehicles generates pollutants and toxins and what remedies are available for mitigating or stopping these processes.

In the Trees and Wildlife section we will describe the effects of cutting trees on our environment and the habitat for birds and other wildlife.

In the Water and Watersheds we will describe the effect of converting large proportions of a watershed to impervious surface.

Finally, in the Homes and Buildings segment we describe ways in which conventional technologies of building waste energy and water and how green technologies can offer models of energy efficiency and water conservation.
