What You Can Do!

There are plenty of options for people who want to make a difference on campus or at home. To help the natural environment at Emory as an unsung hero, be an habitual recycler and energy conservationist. Or work with others, either by joining one of several campus groups or by participating in individual projects.

Ongoing projects include Baker Woodland Ivy Pulls organized by the Ad Hoc Committee on Environmental Stewardship and tree plantings organized by the Friends of Emory Forests. Or help to educate others. Write an article for the "Environmentally Emory" column of Emory Report (send email to mterraz@emory.edu) or perform an environmental audit of your building. For example, see how many pounds of recyclables are thrown into non-recycling waste containers in one week. (For a comprehensive model, see Adam Wolf's study of Turman Residential Center). Also, consult the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star website to see how your office can save energy and reduce pollution through reduced paper use and more energy-efficient technology.
