Baker Woodland Restoration Project

The Ad Hoc Committee has undertaken a Baker Woodland Restoration Project under the direction of Professor Emeritus Bill Murdy. The first step has been to organize a number of "Ivy Pulls" to remove the invasive alien species English Ivy which has been overtaking native species on the ground and threatening trees. See the list of herbaceous species in Baker Woodland prepared by Prof. Murdy. FMD, especially the Roads and Grounds division of FMD under Jimmy Powell, has assisted with removal of the ivy and restoration of native species.

Long term hopes include restoration of the stream which has been subject to extensive erosion, pollution, and sediment from excessive stormwater runoff as new buildings and roads prevent rain water from natural percolation through the ground and force it into concrete culverts that drain directly into the stream.
